Fourth and fifth graders at Westport Elementary were able to hear how some of their favorite characters came to life on October 4th when author Bill Harley came to visit. Students in the fifth grade read “Night of the Spadefoot Toad” as their summer reading assignment. This book introduced them to great human characters and many animal species in Massachusetts. A group of 5th graders even put on a skit for Mr. Harley from one of the chapters in the book, which he loved. Fourth graders did a class read from the Charlie Bumpers series, Charlie Bumpers vs. The Teacher of the Year. After discussing the book in detail and creating digital posters about their favorite part in Media Class students were able see how the books were developed and written. We can not thank the FOWL(Friends of Westport Library, WES-MAC PTO, Westport Cultural Council, and Helen E. Ellis Charitable Trust enough for providing this enriching opportunity for our students.
