Today, students and staff will practice a safety drill. During this drill, students will practice lockdowns and the additional measures they can take to secure their room, including barricading the doors. There will be announcement over the intercom at a designated time notifying students and staff that we are starting a safety drill. In each classroom, staff members will problem solve how they might respond to this announcement as a class. The staff will have specific prompts and will complete a feedback sheet that will be shared with administration. The Westport Police Department, through our SRO, will review the various responses with the administrative team and will discuss any issues or concerns.
Our staff will debrief later in the day and receive the feedback from the police department. Tomorrow, staff will review any necessary information with the students and discuss any alternatives as deemed appropriate from today’s conversation.
We will send out an all-call later today to notify you when the drill is complete and to provide you with any additional information regarding today’s drills. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Karen Augusto, Executive Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent at firstname.lastname@example.org
