Aubin and the Westport Community Schools would like to share an update regarding the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (DESE) mask mandate for the 2021-22 school year. Earlier today, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education met and voted to give DESE Commissioner Jeffrey Riley the authority to institute a mask mandate for the beginning of the upcoming school year. Note, the following was released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on Friday, Aug. 20: MALDEN – Education Commissioner Jeffrey C. Riley will ask the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to grant him authority to mandate masks for all public K-12 students, educators, and staff through October 1 to ensure schools fully reopen safely and to provide time for more students and educators to get vaccinated. Aubin reports that during the week of April 12, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Public School Monitoring (PSM) will conduct a Tiered Focused Monitoring Review of Westport Community Schools. The Office of Public School Monitoring visits each district and charter school every three years to monitor compliance with federal and state special education and civil rights regulations. Aubin and Athletic Director Jason Pacheco are pleased to announce that Westport Jr./Sr. High School’s varsity boys and girls basketball teams wrapped up very successful seasons recently, with each team making it to the Mayflower Athletic Conference championship game.  The Westport boys basketball team defeated West Bridgewater 70-52 on Tuesday, Feb. 23 to claim the conference tournament title.
