-As you know and if you didn’t know, Mr. Aho will be retiring this June as principal of Westport Junior/Senior High School and we are now looking for a candidate to replace him as our new principal. Superintendent Reese would like student input. There is an online survey with a few questions about what characteristics and skills you would like your next principal to have. It is your opinion. -Spring sports paperwork is due in athletics this Friday. The indoor batting cage will be open Tuesday thru Friday until 4pm this week for anyone that wants to stay after school to hit. Tuesday and Thursday will be baseball and Wednesday and Friday for softball.

-The Drama Club’s production of “Once Upon a Mattress” is this weekend. The shows are Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm. Each performance will be limited to 150 people per night!

-Any junior who is unable to sign into the portal, please see Mrs. Corey in the guidance office for a new log in. It is necessary to be able to access the portal as we will be working on schedules next Monday.

-Rylee Dumond is organizing a Relay for Life Fundraiser. She is raising money to help support research to find a cure for cancer. She is selling shirts for $10.00 or for a $1.00 donation we can wear purple on March 27th . See Rylee or Mr. Monast for a t-shirt order form and they have to be turned in on March 13th

-Grade 8 student Avery Avila is Westport’s Project 351 representative. As part of her role in the program, she will completing a community service project with Cradles to Crayons, an organization that brings essential items to children in need. From March 22 to April 3, Avery will be collecting new
and used shoes, pajamas, and clothes for infants to 12 year olds. Donations can be brought to the Main Office and will be stored with Mrs. Charette. Please see Avery if you have any questions.

-Help Support the Physical Education Department in the Annual Fitness Challenge. -Starting after vacation on Tuesdays’ and Thursday’s stop in the gym before school for a 15 minute walk, shoot some hoops or hit the weights in the weight room. Different activities will be added in upcoming weeks. All are welcome, students and staff. Help support this great fitness
initiative!

-Class Competition! STEEL is running a fundraiser starting Monday March 2nd through Friday March 13th. The fundraiser is to help the Ronald MacDonald House which is an organization that provides support to the families of critically ill children. Each grade will be responsible for donating a specific item.
Grade 7-Toilet Paper Grade 10 – Garbage Bags
Grade 8 – Hand Soap Grade 11 – Deodorant
Grade 9 – Paper Plates Grade 12 – Gallon Zip Lock Bags
The grade that is able to donate the most of their item will receive an Ice Cream Party!
The boxes starting Monday for Grades 7 and 8 will be in Mrs. Michael’s Office and for grades 9-12 they will be in the Main hallway Guidance Office.

Irene Erickson Croteau Scholarship. Open to all students but there has to be a demonstrated interest in art or the performing arts. Deadline March 25, 2020.

Massachusetts Association of Insurance Women MAIW Scholarship. Open to all students planning on attending a 4-yr college or university. Deadline March 31, 2020.

Westport River Watershed Alliance Merit Scholarship. Students interested in fields related to environmental science and has a demonstrated interest in the watershed and/or environmental protection. Deadline April 1, 2020.

First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation Scholarship Program. Deadline April 1, 2020

American Legion’s Scholarship. Open to students who are the child or grandchild of a current member in good standing of an American Legion Post within Massachusetts. Deadline is April 1, 2020.

The Massachusetts Restaurant Association Education Foundation Scholarship. Open to students majoring in culinary, food service or hospitality. Deadline April 1, 2020.

Westport High School Town Scholarship. Open to all students. Deadline is April 3rd and completed application are to be given to Mrs. Ruel.

  • South Coast Hospital-Charlton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Health Scholarship. Open to any student
    planning on majoring in a Health Services Career. Deadline is April 3, 2020.
    -The Massachusetts Shellfish Offices Association Scholarship. Priority to students majoring in Marine Biology and those living in Westport. Deadline is April 3, 2020.
    The Rotary Club of Fall River Scholarship. Open to students who understand the Rotary mission of Service above Self. Students should be committed to the mission of the Rotary Club and be active
    participants in school and community service activities. Deadline is April 3, 2020
    Hawthorn Medical Scholarship. Open to students applying for nursing, pre-med, radiological technology, laboratory sciences, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory
    therapy, certified medical assistant or other human health related field. Deadline April 3,2020.
    Greater Southeastern Massachusetts Labor Council. Open to students with parents, guardians, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters or grandparents who are members of a labor union affiliated with the Greater Southeastern Massachusetts Labor Council. Deadline April 10, 2020.
    Portuguese-American Student Scholarship-Prince Henry Society of Massachusetts. Open to students of Portuguese descent. Deadline April 10, 2020.
    Horatio Alger National Career and Technical Scholarship. Enrolling in a career or technical program. Website is application.horatioalger.org Deadline is April 15, 2020.
    William Patrick Cody and Carolyn Columbia Cody Educational Fund Trust. Open to students planning to major in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy or other medical field/degree. Deadline is

    -Westport United Youth Soccer Scholarship. Must have played Westport United Youth Soccer. Deadline is May 1, 2020.
    The Little Theatre of Fall River Performing Arts Scholarships. Open to students majoring in theater arts, music or dance. Deadline May 1, 2020.
    Saint Anne’s Hospital Multicultural Health Scholarship Award. Must be bi-lingual or bi-cultural and majoring in a health related field. Deadline is May 8, 2020.
    Marcus Urann Scholarship. Open to students with parents/grandparents that operate or work on cranberry bogs. Deadline is June 30, 2020.
