Westport’s Jr./Sr. High School Receives Donation from Local Organization for New Technology and Equipment

WESTPORT —  Superintendent Gary Reese is pleased to share that the district has received a generous donation from a local nonprofit that will benefit student learning through technology at the Westport Jr./Sr. High School. The Greater Fall River Development Corporation has made a grant donation of $29,923.54 to Westport Community Schools. The funds will be used at the Jr./Sr. High School in the coming years to enhance learning by expanding technology initiatives in the classroom. WESTPORT —  Superintendent Gary Reese is pleased to share that Westport Community Schools is holding its 2020 American Red Cross Blood Drive, in support of 16-year-old Thomas Harrington, next week. WHEN: Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. WHERE: Alice A. Macomber School Gym, 154 Gifford Road WHAT: Donors are encouraged to give blood in support of Thomas Harrington, the 16-year-old son of Macomber School Adjustment Counselor Elisabeth Harrington, who has battled bone cancer since he was a child. Westport Junior/Senior High School Hosts Lady Cats Charity Night

WESTPORT —  Superintendent Gary Reese is pleased to announce that the Westport Junior/Senior High School’s girls basketball teams hosted their third annual Lady Cats Charity Night. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Lady Wildcats played the Pioneer Charter School of Science at Westport High School in their annual charity basketball game. Westport Community Schools Completes Manganese Remediation in Drinking Fountains at Macomber School

Drinking Fountains to be Turned On Feb. 24 WESTPORT — Superintendent Gary Reese is pleased to report that the district has completed its manganese remediation in the drinking fountains at the Macomber School after several years of work. In the spring of 2019, the district began working with Northeast Water Solutions of Exeter, Rhode Island to evaluate the issue and develop a long-term remedy. A new filtration system was installed in July and has since passed all rounds of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) testing. Westport’s Macomber School Participates in Global School Play Day

WESTPORT – Superintendent Gary Reese and Principal Cheryl Greeson are pleased to share that students at the Alice A. Macomber School participated in Global School Play Day last week. On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Macomber participated in its second annual play day. The event first launched in 2015, with around 65,000 students participating. This year, more than 500,000 students from schools in 75 countries were signed up for the day. The day is meant to encourage play among students that involves no structure or organization by adults. Westport Junior Senior High School Hosting Students from Japan as Part of International Exchange Program

WESTPORT —  Superintendent Gary Reese is pleased to announce that several students and two teachers from Aomori, Japan are spending two weeks at Westport Junior Senior High School as part of a long-running International Exchange Program. The group arrived on Saturday, Feb. 1, and will be in town through Thursday, Feb. 13. Every year since 1986, the International Exchange Club at Westport High School has hosted students from Japan for approximately two weeks.
