Dear Parents/Guardians:

The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas. CEP allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications. Instead, schools that adopt CEP are reimbursed using a formula based on the percentage of students categorically eligible for free meals based on their participation in other specific means-tested programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Breakfast IS Free for all Students

• Macomber School offers free breakfast to all students starting at 8:15 until 8:45 a.m.
• Westport Elementary School offers free breakfast to all students starting at 8:00 until 8:30 a.m.
• Westport Middle-High School offers free breakfast to all students starting at 7:00 until 7:30 a.m.

LUNCH Is Free for all Students

• 8 oz. Milk (Only): $0.50
• Adult Meal: $4.70 (taxes not included)

**All Families qualify for free and reduced lunches are entitled to the daily lunch served. Additional items such as an extra slice of pizza, any snacks, extra milk, double lunch, and/or any a la carte items are NOT included in the free meal.

Menus are subject to change, notices will be posted through the website! Alternatives change on a daily basis at each school.

There is no food allowed on school buses!

At the beginning of the school year Westport Community Schools informed ALL parents that students caught eating on the school bus would be immediate grounds for dismissal of bus privileges! Some students still continue to eat on the bus without being aware that some foods may contain allergens that may cause Anaphylaxis – a severe, potentially fatal, allergic reaction.

Allergens
Although nearly any food is capable of causing an allergic reaction, only eight foods account for 90 percent of all food-allergic reactions in the United States. These foods include peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish. For more information on these common allergens, visit the Food Allergy Research & Education website.

Based on guidance from USDA*, foods that pose the highest risk for choking are foods that possess the following characteristics: ‘round, tube-shaped, small, hard, thick and sticky, smooth, slippery, or easily molded to the airway’.

In order to align with Massachusetts state licensing and USDA’s recommendations, FNP’s policy restricts the serving of the following foods to children under four years of age:

• Hot dogs, sausages, sausage links, or similar processed food items
• Grapes, cherries, melon balls, kiwi fruit, cherry and grape tomatoes
• Specific berries - kiwi berries, raspberries, blackberries, goji berries
• Peanuts, nuts, and seeds (for example, sunflower or pumpkin seeds)
• Peanut butter and nut/seed butters
• Dried fruit such as raisins or cranberries
• Shelf stable, dried and semi-dried meat, poultry, seafood snacks (such as beef jerky or summer sausage)
• Popcorn
