Westport Community Schools Thanks Westport Town Officials for Supporting Increase to School Budget

The Westport Community Schools would like to thank the Town of Westport for their support in adding more than a half million dollars to the district’s proposed annual budget.
At its Tuesday, Sept. 22 meeting, the Westport Finance Committee approved adding an additional $505,207 to the school line-item in the Town’s proposed operating budget. The budget will be voted on at the Special Town Meeting scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3.
The increase in funds was previously approved by the Westport Board of Selectmen, and will now need to be approved by voters at the Special Town Meeting.
If approved, the Westport Community Schools’ portion of the budget would increase to $19,096,102, up from last year’s total of $18,590,895, an increase of 2.7%.
The additional funding would be put toward, among other things, the hiring of a math teacher at Westport Junior Senior High School and two special education teachers for the district.
“We would like to thank the members of the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee for their support in advocating for this additional money for the Westport Community Schools,” Superintendent Tom Aubin said.
